antenna question

the antenna on my focus is hella long, so i decided to cut it. i boiled some water and stuck the rubber tip of the antenna into the water to loosen it up to take off. that worked fine. then i had to cut my antenna, i cut 12-13 inches off. i never realized how tough these things are. i broke my moms garden hedge clippers and didnt even scratch the antenna! after that i got some real heavy duty hedge clippers and it finally cut it right in 2 pieces. so now all i had to do was stick the rubber piece i boiled off back onto the new, shorter antenna. well in the process of doing this the rubber piece split and now wont fit....which is fine i can probably find another one at lowes.

but heres my quesion: in the middle of the antenna is a thin wire. if i have this antenna on my car(without the rubber tip) and it rains, could it cause a problem?

i never listen to the radio, infact even if i wanted to i couldnt b/c the antenna from my eclipse deck didnt connect to the stock antenna cord in my car...but thats a different story.

You do know they make aftermarket plugs to connect the stock antenna wire to your new head unit... A lot of the "older" cars need them for the newer head units...

This should also be in one of the audio forums...

you cant just take the antenna off, theres a base that the antenna plugs in, i dont just want the base on the roof of my car.

and why should this be in the audio forums? its a quick question about my antenna.
