ANSWERS about using subs in the winter

I have read alot and got a wide array of people saying thet you cant use them at all it will crack a cone and those saying nothing at all will happen and carnk em.

i though that the only problem with cold weather was the surrounds getting stiff, thats all.

my friend COMPLETELY uninstalled his subs because he thinks that they will go bad/crack but i think he is full of shit. what do you all think?

I've never had any problems playing my subs in the cold. I've played my subs below freezing temps and never had a problem. They do sound different, but that could be because of the air the sound waves are traveling through, not the subs themselves

Hmmm, I never even gave the cold weather consideration while I was living in Chicago. I can definitely say that below freezing temperatures has absolutely no noticeable effect on any subs I have had.

I've seen the surrounds crack to shit before. Granted that's up here, where below 0 is the norm for an extended period of time. I say, unless it is extremely cold, don't worry about it. In MSP, you should be fine for a lot of the winter.

i always play my subs in the winter and i usually have frost on the inside of my car in the winter. sometimes the surrounds get stiff but after alittle bit, they loosen up. havent had a problem yet.

Last year didn't have a problem. But my cones were polypropylene and I can't really imagine that cracking from the cold. Subs will move slower and sound different but it's no big deal really.
