Another vs. thread

I now have everything I need, except for an amp (sold it after I bought it because I realized I would need more power regardless).

I've done some research, and it seems to be a Hifonics vs. Sundown vs. Audioque for what I'm interested in doing. I am on a budget, and would prefer to spend under 300. I have 2 Alpine Type R's, the 2 ohm version. I have been looking at the following amps to be wired at 2 ohms:

BXi1608D

AQ1200D

SAZ1500D

The R's RMS at 500. Any people with EXPERIENCE that can comment to a greater depth on which amp I should get? Seems like the AQ would underpower my subs.

From what I've heard, the Hifonics amps don't do rated power, they are overrated by a couple hundred watts.

Between the AQ and Sundown, if you're really budget conscious, yet still want a great performing amp, I'd go with the AQ2200D for $389. You're spending less, and getting more wattage than if you went with sundown. Not to mention the fact that your subs will get a couple hundred watts more than RMS, which is good since they can handle way more than 500W.

Ehhh... I can't do $389. I'm seriously considering the AQ1200D at this point, however.

What do you think about AQ1200D vs. BXi1608D? Is the BXi that seriously overrated that the AQ will get me more power?

If you have two 2 ohm subs wouldn't you either be wiring the amp to either 1 or 4 ohm, not 2 ohm as you stated? Definitely want to take that into consideration //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

how does two d2 subs wire to 1 or 4?

P.s Go with th sundown!

You kinda bought the wrong subs for the 1608D. If you wanted to use that one you should have gone with the 4 ohm version. That way you could wire them to a 4 and 1 ohm load. At 1 ohm the 1608D will give you about 1200-1300 RMS. The R's would like that, but since they are 2 ohm subs you don't have that option.

Your options are to wire them at 2 ohms or .5 ohms. There aren't that many "cheap" amps that will give you the power you want in the price range you want.

I would look into the Kicker though.

I think the Kicker is 1100 @2ohm vs. the Sundown's 950 or so. I'd still go Sundown to give you flexibility down the road, but the Kicker seems to be a solid amp especially for what you can get them for online new.

That being said I wouldn't stress out too hard over 150 watts - you won't be able to hear a difference all other things being equal. If you have the choice of a Sundown in your budget I wouldn't hesitate a bit.
