I don't want to derail this thread any more than it has been, so I will not quote both of you. I have seen that documentary a little while back and I agree with the message.
Some fields of work do require a college education, so there is very little way around that. If someone is self-motivated and wants to excel, they can keep putting their foot in the door until they get that dream job. There is a famous story about someone who wanted to work for FORD motor company so bad that they waited outside for a month until someone called in sick. The person got a temp job that eventually bloomed into to an executive position with the company.

I have a few friends who have spent many years in various colleges and struggle to make ends meet. One is a busboy at a restaurant making minimum wage. Another has a teaching degree but makes more money as a bar tender....
