another rca problem?

okay, so i have an entry level pioneer(not sure on the model) and im driving the other day, and everything is fine, then all of a sudden my subs cut out. after further investigation i find that if i pull the rca's out of the amp it goes off of protect mode, so naturally i try a new pair of rca's, and same thing happens. so, then i try another amp, that i know works, but same thing, it goes into protect mode, until the rca's are pulled out. could the rcs line out on the h/u have fried? what else should i be looking at here? all the other speakers are on and functional except subs.....any help is greatly appreciated.

How long have you had your subs installed? Which amp do you have? What is the voice coil configuration of your subs?

i put the subs in a couple weeks ago, i have a pa 1920.2, and a hifonics zx440, they work still, cause they come on and off if i play with the rca's but the protection light comes on.

oh, and the subs are single coil alpine type-e's.....
