Is it an actual kicker box. If so there loaded enclosures actually hit pretty hard if it has the subs it was made for.

Yes I would and check with DMM. Check your filter settings on your amp. If possible take pics of how sub are wired and amp settings. If I can see what I am working with I could help more. My friend had a couple kicker 10"s in a kicker box and they hit pretty hard.

I know prefabs aren't

my kicker cvr's prefab wasnt the best by anymeans, but it got loud with 1000rms on it...so if yours isnt at least "loud", something could be wrong

For the most part, everything looks like it's set up fine. And you said that with the digital voltage readout, it stays at 14.4v even when the sub is playing? Something could be wrong with the voltage meter - if you have a DMM or another voltage meter, give that a shot.

im going to purchase a volt meter after work, i've never utilized one before, so i unhook the speaker wire from the amp and put the prongs in those outputs? what do i need to look for?

Set the DMM to 200 ohm and disconnect speaker wire from amp and check to see if your are getting the final ohm load you want iirc you want 2ohm. Then hook up to speaker connections and follow this How To: Set your Amplifier Gain - SSA Car Audio Forum

so to check the resistance of the subwoofers i just place the dmm leads across the positive and negative speaker wire that goes into the amplifier?

I checked the subwoofer resistance and it fluctuated between 1.8-2.1 ohm so I guess that's ok I'll try setting the gain
