if u have EMT or MC, (witch i doubt) all u need to do is put a ground wire from the green scew on the recept to the metal box. how old is your house?

So the wire would just connect the receptical to the box...doesn't seem like a very good ground.

IF the coduit was metal, ie EMT, MC, or some other metal condut, it will take that back to the panel as a ground. but, romex has no metal, so u cant.

if it's a metal box, it's not a bad ground. if not, you'd have to run the wire to a ground yourself.

I am not seeing anything good...

1. I can't ground from receptacle to the box.

2. I can't just ground the plug to a piece of steel

3. I don't want to run a ground from the plug to the breaker box.

I guess I have to live with it?

it's doable. doing right and aesthetically is harder. doing it strictly for a ground loop and not power wise is easier.

you don't have to run the ground to the breaker box for what you're trying to do. it just needs to be grounded.

i still say try is in another place in your house. just to make sure it's the power source and not the reciver.

actually, if you open up the receiver, you may be able to ground it from there instead of messing with the power outlet. run a seperate wire, much like you would ground a head unit in a car. just make sure you get the correct wire to ground.
