Annoying Hum when there is no content

My house is about 8 years old.

Me and my dad did the wiring. I was only 15 at the time so I did most of the holding.

I did not pull the plug all the way out but peak around the sides (I sleep in an unfinished attic). I did not see a green screw.

Is it safe to pull out the plug while still powered? The plug is on the same line as the lights. I turn out the lights, then I can't see.

I am considering getting a 3 - 2 adapter and then grounding the thing externally...if that makes any sense.

I just checked and the hum exists when the radio is the source and the volume is all the way down.

umm, i would for safe keeping turn the power off. better safe than sorry right??

you can. just don't touch the sides where the power runs in and out.

that would work if you can do it safely. fires start easy in an attic.

that would work if he had a metal box and some kinda metal conduit. if it's romex then he has nothing to ground against.

i think he wants to run his own wire and ground as you would in a vehicle.

you would have to ground it to metal.

The box itself is metal. I think the wire is romex. It is really thick lamp cord looking stuff. It is white and says 14/2 and some other stuff on it.

yea, then u don't have any way of getting a ground back unless u tie it into the nuetral wire. but i don't think thats to code.
