An odd aerport question?

Hey guys...

At the moment I have two 6" precision aeroports at full lenth. However I may need more port volume but I dont have enough room for another pair to have four of them side by side. DJ at AQ recommends 110sq for two HDC3 15's in my case and Im short. Could I put a 4" port on each side of the 6" ports or is this a no-no?

Also is a 6" full-lenth port about 28.5sq in volume? Mine are both uncut with flares

Thanks!

Box is on the small size for two 15's but it sounds fairly well at the moment.

After displacements etc. I have about 3.5cu.ft per sub

Id like it tuned low-mid 30's

Looks like 8" ports would be best

I would go with the 10, the 8s will have more area and thus need to be longer. 3.5 per sub isn't that small, I would say its average.

For a single 10inch port with 7 cubes, you will need 20.45 inches of length for a tune of 33hz, it drops to 17.36inches for a 35hz tune. you can get away with less port area with round ports, the 10 would give you 78.5 sq/in or 11.22 sq/in per cu/ft which is plenty.

Thx guys for the advice!!

oh i didnt know that was 100sq for a slot

Also Kushy dreams...if I went with two 8's how many sq would that give me tuned to 33 or so?

My box is built and I may as well cut the ports holes bigger instead of making a new box with one 10" port

Thx

yes but tuning them will be a pain in the arse
and two 6 inch aeros is plenty for two 15s i usually use two 4inchers per pair of 15s
Yeah but I would be just leaving them as is since its a daily driver. I wont be removing them to tune probably at all if it pounds the way I like it at 33-35Hz

If I added a 4" on each side would I leave them full lenth with flares?

I just checked and the two 6" ports I have now cant be made larger to 8" coz they are too close together

Unless there was a way to remove and replace that port side panel. I dont wanna have to build another box so soon.

Has that been done before? Removing and replacing a single side piece?

The only way you could do that is putting another panel on the existing side panel. May not be possible if your already close to the back.

Sounds like a good option for sure thx!

so if I used two 8" flared aeroports how long would they need to be in a 7cu.ft box for two HDC315s tuned arou d 32-34hz?

Thx again

Not sure where you're going with this.. first you didn't have enough airspace, now you're trying to install larger ports which will take up more airspace.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif 2 6" aeros should be plenty of port for 2 15s in a daily application. I'm not sure that more port/less airspace is going to get you what you want since you're already on the low side for airspace.. My suggestion would to be to talk to one of the designers here and see if they can come up with something that will get the desired effects.

Yeah I see what ur saying. One cancels the other out kinda.

Its just DJ from AQ said I was short on port but that my space per sub, 3.5cu.ft. was average so I thought I could expand to 8" ports and not affect too much airspace

So I might try it and see if there is any improvement if its not a wacko idea haha
