Amplifier stated to run on 2-ohms minimum with a 1-ohm sub

Hey,

I have a JL XD300/1 and a Rockford Fosgate P3S-1X12. The problem is in the fact that the woofer is on 1-ohm and the amp is rated to 2/4-ohms. I have used it as it is on 1-ohm, but I am scared of frying the amp in the long run. The woofer itself is a DVC woofer and I technically could rewire it, but the box is basically impossible to open. How should I proceed? I'd really want to get away by just rewiring the sub to 2-ohms, but I also don't want to damage the enclosure. I think running it at 1-ohm on a 2-ohm amp is a too big risk for me. Any suggestions?

sorry for any typos, wrote this on my phone.

Break the enclosure if that's what it takes to open it. Boxes are cheaper than amps. Having said that, JL amps are top-tier, and they should protect long before they self-destruct.

Edited to add: If the sub is wired to 1 ohm, that suggests dual 2 ohm coils. You cannot rewire it to 2 ohms.

Oh, thanks on that final edit. I looked at the amazon listing and someone said that it could be wired to 2-ohms.

If you enjoy algegra, you should look up resistance formulas. The only difference between resistance and impedance is frequency.

I could wire it to 4-ohms if I'm correct? That would be fine as well.

Yep a dvc 2 ohm can be wired up to 4ohm

I'll try to get the box open and if it gets screwed in the process I'll just try to build a near identical box to mount the sub back in. Looks like I have no choice, better to run it on 4ohms at 200W RMS than to risk it going on 1-ohm. The sub itself is sold seperately so it would be a pretty simple process. I really prefer having a sealed enclosure.

You should be able to unscrew the sub from the enclosure and rewire it to an Ohm load the amplifier is stable too. You can also wire up One coil on a DVC sub.. but it will only be able to handle 1/2 the RMS value

The RMS power of the sub is 400W DVC, half of that would be 200W. The amp is capable of delivering 200W on 4-ohms and 300W on 2-ohms. I'll just run it on 4-ohms to be safe. Taking it to a local car audio shop and see what they have to say. I tried to screw it open, but it's glued to the box and that makes it pretty hard. Unscrewing and screwing it back in the box screws up the material and the screws start to spin eventually.
