Amplifier Selection Question

Hi All,

Newbie here... I am currently looking for an Amp to push my Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 Components. Infinity details that the speakers can handle 100watts rms and a peak of 400watts.

This may sound like a stupid question but:

Do I want to get a 100x2 watts rms amp? I heard that for the best sound your Amps should be set to about 50-60% gain.

Thanks

The gain doesn't have to be all the way up for an amp to reach full power. For example if your H.U. has 4volt preamp signal, then the amp may reach full power with the gain only 1/4 way up. Your speakers were designed to handle lots of power so get a high quality amp rated at least 100 watts rms. I got regular kappa 6.5inch components and i powered them with a JL audio 300/2 amp 150watts per channel.

I have the Alpine CDA-7995 which has the 4V preouts.

Well a 100x2 watt amp is going to run me about $200 anyhow.. The thing is I am old school stereo and really don't know who makes quality amps anymore.. I used to run the High end Kenwood amps about 10 years ago... but until now never really had a vehicle worth putting a good system into.
