Is sending an amplifier back to the company for repair a good idea if I don't have warranty? It's a four channel and only three is working. The amp cost about 250-300 new. Is it reasonable to send it in for repair and get around a $100 bill?

this is true, most electronics tech shops can easily service any make of car audio amplifier. Just look around locally for a reputable shop. Ask questions, and observe the environment. This will likely be the easiest, and least timely way. Just look for a shop that will stand behind thier work for a while and you should be set.

Depends on the amp and the manufacturer. For example, I have an Earthquake D2 that is blown. I hear that earthquake is one of the worst companies to deal with concerning amp repair, but I also hear that most other people don't want to/can't easily fix the D2 because it was an early design that used a unique power supply. I sent earthquake an email and after a long time I get an expensive repair estimate and an attitutde like they'd rather me not send it to them. On the other hand, I have a blown Cadence A7 and I contacted them for a quote and got a quick reply, excellent customer service and the cheapest repair quote I've heard of (and this is for an amp that was discontinued a few years back as well). So the answer, depends;)

I've been looking around here locally to send my RE12.1 to get repaired, but the few places I've been too I wouldn't leave a stick of gum on the counter for fear of it getting stolen......................
