Is it bad to underpower your subwoofer? As in running a subwoofer with 400 RMS, on an amplifier with 200 rms? Could anything go wrong or break, or would i be safe.

no, this question is like is it alright to lower my volume on my car stereo? as long as you set your gain right and you dont clip and you know the threshold of your amp you will be fine.

wanna run 2 subs( 600 watt 300 rms) and 4 3way (1200watt peak 600 rms)all based on max is it safe to use a 1400 watt max amp or go over ie. 1800-2000 watt amp? also been out of the audio world a while what are the quality brands these days? it use to be jl audio subs and either sony explode, pheonix gold, jl audio amps? trying to put system in my boat only wanna use one amp to utilize space but wanna also get most for my money and do have a budget. thanks!!

No, but the amp will work hard if the amp gains are not set right. Or damage it if you do not match impedance correctly
