Amplifier Question

Hey,

I have the Alpine MRP-F450 amp currently running Type R 6.5 components up front and 6x9's in the rear.

I'm thinking about adding a sub.

Here's my question, if I continue to run the 6.5's from my apm and then bridge the other two channels for 200W rms to a sub, can I then run my rear speakers from the HU?

Is there any way I could add a sub without having to buy another amp to power it?

I'm not a huge bass freak so I don't think running a Type-R or Type-S sub off 200W RMS will be a problem, but I did pay for those 6x9's so i'd like them to work too.

I used to have Type S 6x9s which run at 50W rms, the Type R's run at 55, so I think they will still sound quite good off HU power.

Is this possible?

Thanks

To answer you question, yes you can. In the long run though, it is better to have everything amped if you can. Try to find a sub that does not requuire alot of power and you will be fine. You can always upgrade at a later time. Amp, better sub ect...

Why would it matter if the 6x9's are just rear fill?

As I said, I had the Type S 6x9's in my old car running of HU power and they sounded fine. Right now, my system is lacking the bass I want, so adding a sub is the natural fix for my problem.

With my front components still amped at 70W RMS they should still be very satisfactory.

I don't need alot of bass and by doing it this way it will save me alot of money.

The 6x9's are just rear fill for my 3rd and 4rth passengers so.... I'll probably give this layout a try.

Thanks for answering my question

Usually "rear fill" speakers are not run full-range, so it sounds like you have them as full rear speakers more than rear fill, lol.

That's another story though, if you have passengers in the rear often and care about what they're hearing then you'll probably want to keep the rear speakers there.

Personally, however, I would ditch rear 6x9s altogether (and I have, lol). I spent a very long time trying to use rear 6x9s in my car, trying different crossover points to remove high frequencies, trying different ways of amplifying them, etc. In the end it was a big waste of time and I ended up ripping them out completely.
