Amplifier issue?

I've had an interesting problem with my system on 3 different occasions and I'm hoping you guys have a solution. The issue I'm having is that all of a sudden a loud *** sound/tone will be emitted through my front speakers. We're talking peak volume. The only way to get rid of it is to turn the head unit off. Sometimes when turning the head unit back on, the tone will still be there. I'm afraid that the tone is going to damage my speakers. I have the head unit's internal amp disabled and I'm only using the front speakers. Do you have any insight as to what the problem is?

Specs:

Alpine 9886

Morel Tempo 6

eD Nine 4 (bridged for the Morels)

Audioque 1200

Fi Q 12"

If it has only happened 3 times it doesn't sound like that's going to be an easy one to figure out. Troubleshooting gets a lot more difficult when a problem doesn't show up regularly.

What I would do is next time it happens unplug the RCAs from the amp and see if it keeps making the noise. If the noise persists you can pretty much eliminate the HU as the source of the problem. If it stops then there is a good chance it is a problem with the HU.

It doesn't sound like a wiring issue, but then again, you can never really be 100% sure it isn't...electronics are full of gremlins that are just waiting for a little wiring problem. So as a good step, just walk through your wiring and double check to make sure everything looks as it should.
