Amplifier input sens

Can some one clarify for me how amplifier input sens comes into play. What I mean by that is, If i have a Head Unit that puts out 8v preouts do need to find a amp that can accept that voltage? Most amps seem to be 4v as with most head units. Do these parameter need to match?

I hope that make sense. Or am I just completely miss guided?

amp input sensitivity is adjustable via the gain knob....there is a range for every amp

So then it makes no diffrence if your HU uses 8v or 4v preouts. this will not affect the amplifier in any way?

yes it provides it a better signal and the h/u rating is max voltage usually at max volume as well set ur gains on ur amp with a dmm

search for setting gains with dmm

They don't need to match, that's why there is the sensitivity knob.

Also, the only time a HU with 8v pre-outs will produce 8v on the RCA's is at full volume.
