Amplifier and Head Unit Confusion

I just recently purchased a 4-Channel Kenwood KAC-8404 Amplifier and Kenwood KFC-C1739ie 6-3/4" 3-way Speakers, I already had a Kenwood KDC-BT645U Head Unit. My goal was to have the Amp power my 4 Kenwood KFC-C1739ie 6-3/4" 3-way Speakers, with my Head Unit. But when I was trying to install the head unit to my wire harness, I noticed that in my Amp's directions that I was to install a Speaker level input connector and those were suppose to go to my speakers. Do I install that into the head unit or to the actual speakers? Does that mean that I need some more of that gauge wire to connect those? Is that connector going to interfere with my connection from the head unit to the wire harness? What should be my next course of action? My vehicle is a 1999 Volkswagen Cabrio 2 Door Convertible. Any help, would be much appreciated.

the head unit will only be used to generate a signal for the external amplifier to amplify in that setup. so when installing the head unit, you won't connect any of the speaker leads to it. instead, you will run a 4 channel RCA cable (or 2 2-channel RCAs, whatever you prefer) to the 4 channel amp. then, run speaker wire (12ga or 16ga should be sufficient) to your 4 speakers.

with an external amp and those 6.75s...you should have some serious sound! enjoy
