Amp'ed Speakers w/ NO SUBS

Hey fella's

I love my car audio, but I am not even close to being well versed in this hobby. I have had some simple systems in the past.

I just bought a 2013 Ram Quad Cab 1500 with the base 6 speaker stereo. The system has ( 3.5'' ) dash speakers, then has ( 6x9'' ) door speakers. The stereo has a little bit of thump to it shockingly, but still needs to be cleaned up. The stereo at the same time sounds really flat. I run the HU @ 80% and it does not sound like it is even turned up that loud.

I plan on running an Alpine Double Din, with ( Alpine SPE-6090 ) door speakers, and ( Rockford P132's ) in the dash. I would like to run the Dash Speakers off the HU, then power the doors.

*** I DO NOT WANT SUBS ***

So my biggest concern is that if I power the doors with say 50w RMS each, im going to have a stupidly clear stereo without any bass from the speakers, which I would like to retain. Is this even possible ???? I have ran Amp'ed speakers before, but have had a sub to fill in my bottom end, so I wanted my doors to sound clear then. I take advantage of my under seat space in my truck so subs are not happening for me. Can an amp be tuned to give the speakers more power without giving up the mid bass punch I already have ???

thanks for any help fella's !

If the speakers are currently being powered by the head unit that is going to hold back your sound quality with aftermarket speakers, even with a separate amplifier. The head unit is probably equalized for the factory speakers. There's a chance the bass could sound worse with aftermarket speakers. I would first add an amplifier to the existing speakers and see if that helps.

set up is currently stock right now...

The speakers I plan on putting in the new truck ( I already own ), and were in my 2011 Ram 1500. The speakers alone made a massive improvement on the OEM HU in my 11'. This time I want to add the Alpine HU, and a 4 Ch Amp to the system also. The last time I had had just my speakers amped with no sub ( 2008 Mazda Speed3 ), It sounded really loud and clear, but had no bass depth to the music at all. That's what im really considered with. Maybe it was just a tuning issue when I went to the audio installer. Because of that I ended up getting a sub to fill out the bottom end.

A friend of mine just bought a Chylser 200 Limited w/ the BOSTON Acoustics Audio in it. He has NO SUB, and it sounds worlds better then my stereo. His sounds so much cleaner, and still maintains some really good bump for just door speakers. Something like this is my ultimate goal.

If you don't mind doing a bit of modification, I'd recommend running a set of 8" woofers in the doors. I run Sundown Neo Pro 8s on 200wpc in the doors of my '99 Dodge truck and I have very clean midbass. However, if I were trying to replace the sound of a sub, I wouldn't be running PA style mids, I'd be running a standard 8" woofer.

Parts Express has this Dayton 4 ohm 8" woofer with an Fs of 30hz and 30-200hz frequency response. Those woofers in some well sealed doors with a set of 3.5" coaxials like these in the dash would sound pretty nice on a 2 channel amp that could do about 200wpc at 2 ohms.

I'd run the 3.5s on about a 100 micro farad cap to keep the lows out of them.

I am not doing any modification to my doors, however i do think it would be pretty sick lol. Im not looking to get true 8-10" sub bass out of my speakers. I just want to maintain the bump the oem speakers are already giving me, as I am happy with it. The base oem stereo already has the ability to shake my review on certain songs.

nothing crazy, just wanted some cheap upgraded speakers in my old truck...

Alpine SPE-6090's. ( 6x9's )

Rockford Fosgate P132's ( 3.5's )

these speakers alone made an incredible difference on the oem system of my 11' Ram. I would like to power my door speakers with like 45-50w RMS, then just run the dash speakers off the HU.
