amp won't power on

hey guys,

my friend installed two 12" MTX subs, a 2-channel hifonics amp and an eclipse HU.(the sub and amp both do 400Watts rms at 4ohms...the amp when bridged) He hooked all the wires up to the amp, headunit, ground, and battery. The headunit turns on, but the amp does NOT power on. Where would be the first place to start looking for the problem? I was thinking it may be the remote turn on wire but we thought everything was correctly installed

get a dmm and check power on everything

check the remote wire. just incase. that happened to me too when i got my HU and my amp wouldnt do that either. and i took it to the shop, they said it was because of the remote wire. but thats just a suggestion.

+1 on a multi meter but if your cheap get a 2 dollar test light won't show voltage but will at least let you know if voltage is going through or not. check rem from head unit and then at the amp power. grounds. and I've seen many systems that don't power up because their "friends" did the crappy install and never put in the effin fuse

put the black lead on the negative side of the amp with the wire in

and the red lead on the pos 12+ side

if you are getting anywhere from 11v-15v your good there

next,

leave the black lead on the negative side of the amp and move the red lead to the remote wire. should be getting 11v-15 volts also

test the + (red lead) and -(blAck lead) by the amp. see if you get 12volts DC. Then i would check remote wire to ground with radio on. also are you playing a cd or radio? if cd, see if amp comes on with radio. may have it connected to wrong wire.( antenna wire)
