Amp wiring questions

I have a JL 1000/1 and a JL 300/4 amp. The 1000/1 is running @ 2ohms and the other is running at 4 ohms per channel.

What size Power Wire should I use to hook them up? I have been told that 4awg will do the trick. But is that for each? should I run some bigger stuff, then run that into a distribution block to 2 seperate 4awg wires? OR should I run two seperate power cables to each amp straight from the battery?

How for does the wire have to go? To be safe in any case i would run a 2 guage or even a 1/0 guage wire from the battery to a distrobution block and from the block 4 guage to the amps.
