Amp + Velcro ?

Ok so first, I really don't want to drill any holes in my car. I'm already going to be holding down the sub with velcro (JL 12w3v3 in a JL HO ported box). My amp is a jl 500/1...so should I velcro that down too? Its a class D amp, but would the heat from the amp still be too much for the velcro and melt it? And if velcro is good enough, should I velcro it to the sub box or to the carpet in the trunk?

no, amps don't get hot enough to melt velcro. If it's going to be sitting on the carpet I don't see why it wouldn't work...just use some heavy duty stuff. It wouldn't hold on the side of the box, put it on the floor of the trunk

What I meant was not that it would melt the velcro, but the glue/tape stuff on the other side of the velcro....

Ok great thats what I'm gonna do. Just ordered some industrial strength velcro, and my amp wiring kit should come in tomorow...I'm excited to be hooking up my first system.

velcro can work, until you get in an accident or encounter hard braking/acceleration.

just because something can be done or has been done by others, doesn't make it a good idea.

feel free to do the calculations for the kinetic energy required to break the velcro hook-loop adhesion. if you can pull it up with your hands, it's not that strong. let alone you have several layers of adhesion that can fail. on a hot summer day or cold winter day, that velcro glue isn't as strong. you can staple the velcro to the box, but the grab between velcro and carpet is not as good as velcro hook-loop. carpet loops are much weaker.

it's your gear and as long as it's in a trunk, it's not a safety issue. you just risk equipment damage. i'd NEVER rely on velcro in a hatchback or SUV or wagon where the gear shares the same space as passengers.

I will say that in 20 years i've seen dozens of situations where good 'ol velcro was a letdown and equipment was damaged.

true but not lol i total the same car im talking about open the trunk speaker box and amps all still velcroed but i understand your point and this is just my case may not work out like that others

I have used the industrial strength velcro to hold down a few amps in the past. If its the right kind of carpet it will stick and not let go with out a lot of force. Regular velcro probably won't do the job...

I bolt all my stuf down in my suv but when I had my car I used velcro
Ditto. I used L-brackets to secure my box to my frame and from those brackets another set of longer brackets that hold my battery in place. I then used a set of rubber home audio vibration dampers to mount my amp to my box. Nothing leaves the hatch unless I want it to.
