Amp turns on and off...

So let me start by saying i ran my friends Alpine hu in my car last week with the exact same setup and everything worked perfectly. I just installed my Pioneer 880 today and everything started up fine but my sub amp. The speaker amp would turn on fine, but my sub amp, a Massive Audio P1000.1 will turn on then quickly go into protect, then turn on, then go into protect in intervals. Turned off my car, disconnected the sub, turned down the gain a bit and the amp lit up fine. Hooked the sub back up and tried to start it out again. It worked for a bit with the gain turned all of the way down. Once i went to turn up the gain again, it would go into protect, then light up again, then go into protect in intervals. I havent changed any of the wiring since i have my friends alpine in a few days ago. Any idea as to what the problem could be?

i had the same problem.

it sounds like your not getting enough juice to the remote turn on of your amp, it happens

go get yourself a $5 12 volt relay then wire the relay up to give the amp a full 12volt turn on and youll be good to go

Don't think so. A remote wire problem wouldn't be affected by amp gain.

More likely a blown or miswired subwoofer.

Well when i took the sub off and tried it it did the same thing, so its not the sub. The remote amp wire sounds right, i tried a new way of connecting the remote wire for the sub amp, guess its not working to well.

Is it cool to run 2 remote wires for my 2 amps to the 1 wire off the hu?

klepto, just jump the remote from the 12V+ on the amp for now. That way you dont have to run a whole new line of cable for testing. If it still goes into protect then you know it isn't the remote.

Since you said you ran the Alpine and everything worked, have you tried another external source? Like an mp3 player or anything? Try that as well, maybe something is up with your HU preouts.

What does it mean to "jump" the remote from the 12v?

Oh, and i had a hunch it was the rca's, so i detatched the rca's from my amp and the amp worked fine. WTF does this mean then? The 5v output from the rca's is too much for the amp to handle. How can i fix this...grounding the rca's?

This hu is really pissing me of....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

Pretty sure its not the gound wrie, rather the rca's...

I used some 16ga wire and tried to gound the rca's. Amp turns on fine and everything, as soon as i turn up the gain it starts going into protect, then turns on, then goes into protect in very short intervals. If i used a larger gound could it help make a difference. Where do i go from here? This is so ******* frustrating i just want this to work...

I m pretty sure its the rca's since after i took them off it worked fine. Could it have anythign to do with the ground of the hu?

I have a massive amp for the speakers as well and its not doing this...
