Amp turning on in protect mode? Help!

I just changed headunits (jvc-lx111 to a avh-p5700dvd). My amp (tt-2250d) turns on in protect mode and in a couple seconds the green light comes on and it works/sounds normally. It does this with and without the speaker wires in and it DOESN'T go into protect at high volumes... so I have no idea what could be causing this...any help/suggestions?
