Amp turning off?

My amp(bx1000d) keeps turning off when I crank the volume on my HU. The protect light doesnt come on, it just cuts off. What could be the problem and how could I fix it?

your amp might be over heating thus sending it into protect. so either something is jacked up with the amp... or you wired the subs at too low of an ohm load for the amp to handle.

or possibly the wire is to small for the amps......trying to pull too much power....and either the fuses are going to blow or somthing similar to whats happenning now will happen

Sounds like a classic example of an insufficient electrical system to me. When your amp tries to draw more current than your alternator can supply, the voltage drops to a level the amp cannot operate at so it shuts off until the voltage comes back up. A sure sugn would be if it only cuts out when the bass hits hard.

thats exactly what i was thinking.

Would a capacitor help with the voltage drops or would it just add to the problem?

Or would I need to buy HO alternator to fix this problem?

You will need to get a HO alternator.

Adding a cap will only put more stress on your electrical system....

well what gauge wire are you using right now??? you should be using 4 gauge or below

i think i may have found the problem. I know im overpowering my ten which is about 400w max, 200w rms,(got it for free) but when i opened by trunk i smelled some sort of burnt rubber smell coming from the sub. My amp is also in the trunk so if the amp senses the burning smell will it go into thermal protect (or one of those) because it thinks its overheating?

Last time I checked, amps did not have noses.

the amp cannot sense the burning smell

but it can sense a dead short in the voice coil.....
