AMP tuning- Please Help!

Hey all,

Can anyone help me with tuning my amp? I dont have a DMM and Im trying to do the best I can until I get one.

I have a X920BT in my 09 STI. Its running all the stock speakers. Loudness, Crossover, bass boost and staging are all OFF. My EQ is on flat. With those settings, my max volume on my deck is 30, before I hear any distortion.

I also have 2 10" JL subs. They are older looking an only have one voice coil, so I think they are the W0's.

My amp is a performance technique ICBM-771 250+250. I have my 2 10" subs running parallel in bridged mode, which I think makes my subs 2ohm.

My issue is... my bass hits funny. Some songs have way to much bass and others do not have enough. And this amp has to many settings for a noob like me. It has GAIN, Bass boost, and subsonic frequency adjustments.

Ive tried putting my deck at level 25 (3/4 full volume) and cracked the gain up to the point that my subs sounded about right. Leaving the bass boost at 0 and the subsonic freq at 30 (it goes from 30-500) and there is no on or off switch. The bass hits and the subs and internal speakers seem to blend together well volume wise. But some songs or FM commercials just overload with BASS and sometimes say a rap song wont hit like I think it should. Its like it hits on certain bass notes, and others it ignors.

Can anyone help me tune my amp?

thats what happend when you ahve 10" subs in a prefab box. im guessing you have a pefab box set up for general use. you will need dmm or oscope to do it right. if not go by ear unitl then. i hate tuning with a meter. quite honestly having a really good box and basic subs will make a huge diff. plus listeningto FM radio isnt the ebst thing witht subs either. thus the reason i have hd radio.

yea man if you dont have the spectrum analyzer or the correct equipment, you have no choice but to play it by ear....the whole subs dont hit right at the right times is most likely the box's fault like Fenix described....
