amp troublew

I got this Logic amp from this guy at work i have no idea weht the specs are or even the model number..........but any ways when i hook the amp up it sounds got at low levels but when i turn it up, when the bass "hits" the speaker pops and the amp light fades to alost dark and when there is not bass at that moment in time the light goes back to normal.......what could mk the amp do that? any feed back would be greatly appreciated........gone
