Amp trouble

I sold my MTX 801D amp just recently to a guy locally. Tested the amp out one last time on the day of the exchange, first thing in the morning, and everything worked fine. Removed it from my car, and later that evening, made the exchange. I told him that it worked fine and the RCA input on it was pushed in a little (mounted it too low behind the rear seat so the RCA's got pushed in a bit when the seat was pushed back into place) but it didn't seem to hurt the amp's performance at all.

So the sale went off smoothly and we both went off our merry way. Few weeks later, I get the following message from him:

"sorry i dont mean to sound like a dickhead but when u sold it to be before you took it out did it bump ? Cause the amp is giving me problems ... i have to max out the gains, freq, and eq to get it to push this sub ..."

So my guess, right away, is that he's trying to push a sub that needs more power to move, assuming wiring is all correct. Other than that, maybe it's not properly/sufficiently grounded or his sub is wired wrong/incorrectly. Other than what's in that message above, I have no more info on his issue.

I know anyone would pretty much need to know more than what he sent me, but what do you guys think, off the top of your head? Think the RCA jacks issue could be a potential source for his problem, also?

Well i finally got a reply message back from him:

"ok kool... i guess i'll try and throw it in my friends' car later then... im trying to push a mtx 9500 in factory box @ 2ohms. yes grounding is all good. i was just upset when i plugged in my kenwood 600 watt and it bumped harder than the mtx did >_

Anyone else can think of what may be wrong? I'm hoping to get some more info as he does more testing.

Dual 4ohm, yes. I'm wondering if he may have wired it in series instead of parallel.

Finding out what headunit he has would really help out along with the wiring of the sub.

Yea i asked him for that information but he hasn't responded back yet.

it's got to be running at 8 ohms

those amps really don't expect/need a high preout voltage- can't see that being the issue.
