amp to powerful?

I have a kicker 05cvr122 dvc 2 ohm 400rms 800 watts peak, and I just got an old school MTX Blue Thunder Pro 3002 which does 600rms x 1 at 4 ohms, is this amp gonna be too much for this sub? should i wait till i get another sub before i hook up this amp?

What does it do @ 2ohms?

heres the specs on the sticker on the bottom of the amp:

150rms x 2 at 4 ohms

300rms x 2 at 2 ohms

600rms bridged at 4 ohms

all at 12.5 vdc

750 dynamic at 4 ohms (14.4vdc)

Which amp is better... I mean, power isn't everything. I am not familiar with either amps... but I would keep my 500/1 over a lot of 1000 watt amps. I am an SQ guy, though.

The amp will work fine but you will have to wire the sub up in series to show a 4 ohm load to the amp, if you don't you could fry the amp.

Set your gains properly using the Gain Setting Tutorial in the Amplifier Forum and you'll be fine. You don't have to give it the full 600 watts.

just because the amp CAN do 600watts doesnt mean you need to have it cranked... just go easy on the volume (gain aswell) and you'll be fine, amps dont blow subs, people do.

i have an rlp which is rated a 600wrms and i have a re 35.1 on it which is 1500w rms, or course the gain is all the way down, like someone said just use a DMM to set it
