Amp Suggestion?

I've decided on getting 2 Alpine SWR-1242D 12" Type-R Subs.

I was leaning towards getting the Hifonics Brutus BXI-1206D (1200W RMS x 1 @ 1ohm). This one was recommended to me by a couple people. Then other people told me that Hifonics basically sucks and to get X brand. I'm also being told to get a 2000W amp, even though the subs are 500W RMS each. I thought I was supposed to pretty much match the wattage ie. 2x 500W RMS subs = 1000W RMS amp. The Brutus amp is a mono and the subs are 4ohm each so I don't know if that plays into it but does anyone have any suggestion? Or if anyone else has a better suggestion for subs around the $100 range.
