Amp Smoking

Thats what I figured so I went ahead and ordered a new amp. I'll try to see if the "smoker" is okay this weekend after I get the distribution blocks but we'll see. I highly doubt it though. I also found the sticky on wiring in the install section and 4 gauge wire would have been fine in the first place with a 1200 watt amp. Oh well, lessons learned.

After the length of the power wire from your battery to amp if it was from under hood to trunk then it would of not been enough.....At the top he said length was also a factor so always go 1 size larger around 20 ft or near it....So 1/0 was a good choice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Even if you don't want it, spend the $$ to fix it and sell it or keep it as a backup. Otherwise it's just decoration for your closet or under the bed.

I checked out your website. I'll probably send it out to you sometime next week if it is blown or otherwise not working. I have a feeling that will be the case but nothing looks blackened or cracked so I'll try it out first.

Check your ground connection, in the pics you posted it appears you are hooking it up under a door sill, plastic cover. If your ground is to small, not your case here, or your ground is not making a good contact, you will see smoke from either end. Does your amp get hot at all? Is it under a seat?

The amp is in the floor behind the driver's seat without anything covering it or otherwise blocking it. Even when it was smoking it wasn't hot. It didn't even blow any fuses. HOWEVER, I do recall the box it came in being pretty banged up when I got it from UPS. Maybe it was damaged during shipping. I made sure on the ground connection that all the paint and rubbery stuff was off of the metal and I even trimmed the carpet back to avoid the connection touching anything but metal. I have a feeling that the connections for the power and ground on the amp were simply too large and they criss-crossed somehow to cause the smoking. I think I can fix that issue with a couple distribution blocks.
