Amp shutting down, random times

It just looses power. Checked the ground and it seems to be okay. I'm going to try and find a better ground and get some thicker wire. Also, would the remote wire tell the amp to turn off if it was loose in back of the HU?

Oh one more question, i'm running two type r's and a hifonics amp, 1610D. I have no bass boost and the amp is pretty toned down. Not all the way tho. I'm probably putting like 1400w to both of them. The cone of the subs seem to heat right up and it almost smells like they are just burning up. But not too bad. I'm sure they can handle like 650w-800w no problem...

Um. If you can smell burnt voice coils, I would recommend stopping immediately. If it burns in such a way that the beginning of one layer shorts with the end of the other that comes back up, it will read near to a dead short, and your amp will probably either die or go into protect.

chances are if your not running 1/0 your not putting 1400 out of that amp tuned down
Thats what im saying, i'm getting nowhere close to 1600w, probably more like 1200-1300 as its completely stock electrical so they should not be burning up.

Oh and as for the smell. I don't think its the subs, the box was spray painted and when i got out of work thats all i could smell...

Oh and no, i have not set them up using a DMM. I'm not sure how to even do that. It must be pretty straight forward then.

You guys think that a loose remote wire would cause it to shut down? Its either that or a bad ground...

that hifonics amp really only puts out around 1200-1300 rms @ 1 ohm @ 14.4v, its a hifonics amp which are a bit over rated by a few hundred watts, so it says it does 1600 rms but it cant put out THAT many wayys, so odds are your not putting 1400rms to your load (700 to each)... although they are 500watts rms, even if you are putting 700 to eacg, which your probably not.. you may be putting that many watts on them for a long amount of time, which will eventually burn up the voice coil... which could possibly be what you are starting to smell. that OR your amp may be going bad, odds are the amp is going bad if it shuts off at random times.

The amps less than a few days old, so i'm hoping its something to do with the wiring.

I'm still not sure what the smell it is. If i can only be giving 1300w at 14.4v and theres no way im at a steady 14.4v then i can only possibly be doing 500w to each sub... It can't be burning them up after like 15 minutes off and on?

Would a loose remote wire tell the amp to power down? Thats the only other thing i can think of, other than the ground and that seems to be a good ground.

try getting a cheap cap or doing the big 3 each way would be cheap and effective

i had a similar problem with my old kicker and a cap fixed it

Its 1 ohm i'm pretty sure and it will shutoff even if its not up all the way.

I'm getting an extra battery or two and upgrading to 1/0 soon. Probably will buy a few extra feet and do the big three. Weathers been so nice, i'd love to be snaking 1/0 threw the car.
