Amp shortened itself?

I was testing my friend's amplifier, and it had a weird sparked. I tested the amp by connecting it directly to the battery. First i connected the negative, and then i connected the positive. When i connected the positive one, the negative terminal on the battery had sparked.

Does anybody know why it does this? This happened every time i tested the amp, and i had tested the amp about 3 times.

I highly doubt the amp shorted itself, unless it is not working. That spark is quite common when completing an electrical circuit OR breaking an electrical circuit.

Yeah the amp turns on. So it is okay? Just making sure. Never had this happen to me before.

you should disconnect the battery before wiring anything in a car

The sparks are from the internal capacitors in the amplifier's power supply circuit.

They charge instantly when power is applied, this can create sparks when it is being connected.

No harm.
