Amp rack MDF thickness?

depends on how big the system is.
meaning if you have nasty bass then do 3/4 .

but 1/2 sound be good.

im using 3/4 for my amp rack.

also i would not use mdf.
Thanks guys.....

Why wouldn't you use mdf? What would you use?

Mine will only have an Audison AV5.1 amp, fused distro blocks and terminal strips on it. Maybe one other small amp for rear fill.

Mine is 3/4 MDF. My amps are somewhat heavy tho.

He wouldn't use mdf my guess would be weight. Birch plywood would be ideal much lighter and stronger than MDF.....and much less sawdust.

i use 1/2" all the time, it's fine. make sure you use a good course screw when mounting the amps. if the board is longer than 18" you'd want to brace it the same as you would an enclosure.

hes right.

i dont like mdf for a few reasons.

after some time mdf will start to warp, its heave come paired to birch, and so on.

plus it looks nicer.

but if its a small peace and your going to cover it....

i just rather use birtch. with that you can do 1/2 or 3/8 will do for amp rack.
