amp question, light dimming...

I was messing with my gain the other day and noticed that my sub didnt distort as much as it used to. turns out it wasnt the sub distorting, it was the jack rattling around under the back seat that my box sits on. so now im turning the gain up a little more, but during times of heavy hard hitting base, the lil decorative light on the top of my amp starts to dim. is this a bad thing? should i turn the gains down enough to where it doesnt dim when the bass hits?

its a single 12" alpine type r powered by a profile ap1000m.

it dims because it is trying to put out so much power but its not getting that much power to convert. your amp needs to get power to make power. what size amp are you running, and what kind is it? and also what size wire are you using for your amp? maybe you just need to step up wire size. get back to us with those answers and we can help you out better

500w rms/1000w max @ 2 ohms

im using 4 gauge wire, would it help if i shortened it up a bit? theres probably at least a foot or two i could cut off...

which could you trim?

ground wire should be as short as possible

i was talkin about trimming the battery wire. the ground is already as short as possible

yes shortning up your battery wire should help a bit, but if you still experience this problem, maybe wanna upgrade.

Use bigger wire

what kind of battery / alternator do you have?

And yes it'd probably be a good idea to turn the gains down until you've solved the problem. Dont want to cause any unnecessary damage to your electrical system or amplifier

well looks like a wire upgrade is in my future.

i took out about 2ft from the battery side, and managed to shorten up my ground by about 6 inches while i was at it. still dims...

do your headlights dim?

maybe you need to look into a bigger alternator
