amp protect help

my amp gos into protect when i wire it to +- to +- from the xovers but i can unhook both neg from the amp and wire those together but not to the amp and it plays fine no protect but only the 2 pos wires hooked up and the neg wires put together but not to the amp why is this please help the componet set is 2ohms and when i test each side i get 2.2ohms so i dont think its shorted
