Ok, I think I have what I want to do with my Jeep Wrangler down. I just installed a Pioneer HU, and have an old 10" MTX Thunder 6000 I want to downfire in the back. It's rated at 250 watts rms @ 8 ohms. That's all I have currently.
The next thing I want to do is get an amp for the sub and power a set of 5.25" component set it the front. I found this amp, Power Acoustik RZ4-2000D, which I can bridge one side to 500 watts for the sub. I like the size of the Power Acoustik, and don't need a lot of bells and whistles, it's going in a soft top jeep, I just want some bump, not acoustic perfection. The thing that worries me is the output to the front speakers is rated at 160 watts rms. I haven't seen many components that can handle that much power consistently, at least in my budget. Is it just a matter of turning down the gain on the amp, and I'll be safe? Also, since I will be powering the components and the sub with the same amp, do I need to get 8 ohm 5.25's to match the sub?
