I will be picking up a set of mtx aal212 dual twelve cabinet speakers for $50 and I was wondering what amp would be a good choice to go with them. The speakers are rated at 300 rms. Or another option I could pick up his receiver too its a pioneer rated at 150 rms x 7 but does a tad over that I think for $400.

The receiver should be able to push them since they're pretty efficient, but I'd get a power amp and pre-amp if you're going to just use them for listening. Ebay has lots of good deals on adcom preamps and older kenwood and yamaha power amps.

Midbass Driver and EnclosureTo allow for superior vocal reproduction and enhanced, detailed accuracy, the midbass driver features a pulp cone and foam surround mounted in its own internally damped enclosure. This design method acoustically isolates the midbass from the woofer, resulting in a smooth listening spectrum.
This is the most hyped up description of a mid and its enclosure that I've ever seen.

haha that is pretty hyped considering he had one of the mids and woofers replaced already. But for $50 and an extra woofer I dont think I did too bad. He suggested I bi-amp them because it has the two terminals on the back bridged with solid bars. I know next to nothing about doing this though.

I was about to suggest that because you have two huge woofers in each, but most receivers don't allow you to do that. There are a few that let you use your surround channels to bi-amp, but they are usually a pretty penny. All bi-amping is is connecting each speaker (consider mids and tweets to be a single one) to their own separate amplifier or amplifier channel. So, if you have two sets of L-R channels (on a receiver, front left and front right, plus surround left and surround right), you connect your highs to the fronts and the woofers to the surrounds. Gives extra power where you need it.

Well this reciever DOES have the option. He replaced it with an elite just for the name. Basically all the specs are identical. For some reason I can't think of the model number though.
