amp keeps turning off

i have an 04 Trailblazer that i installed a Pioneer double din radio, Hifonics bxi 1200d, kicker L5 10. my amp keeps cutting off somtimes it will come back on. i thought maybe i had a bad remote wire because the amp would still have power & not show it was in protection mode. i replaced the remote wire & it still does the same thing.

i checked the voltage on the remote wire im getting 13 volts, then i checked the power wire & only got 3 volts, today i checked the voltage at the fuse & got 13 - 14 on both sides of the fuse.

ok guys ive had all kinds of car audio over the past 20 years done numerous installs for people & never had a problem like this.

At the amp, are you checking for power using the amp ground terminal? Try using a different ground spot. If you have good voltage doing this, then check the point at which you have grounded the amp at.

For the power wire to be bad from the fuse all the way back to the amp, it would dam near have to be cut in half. And if it were, it would most likely short out and kill the fuse.

Check, dbl check and re-check your grounds. Make sure you have ALL of the paint scrapped away at the point of the chassis ground.

no other electrical upgrades.

its not playing sometimes it will come on & play for a few minutes & go back off.

i've tried checking at the amp & a different ground spot still the same thing

Can always loom it inside the frame. Probably going to take a longer run, but since you're going to be needing new wire anyways, you might as well do it. That gives both door channels for RCAs for future upgrades and you from cutting the wire up from getting in/out etc. A cut power wire could be major issues up to the truck burning to the ground. Be very wary of where it is placed and how well it is protected.

@ pro-rabbit the power wire is run thru the inside of the truck from the firewall all the way back if thats not the correct way then tell me what is.
A lot of people run it that way (with smaller systems) but usually you see people running their wires underneath the vehicle.

thanks for all the help guys i found the problem, the wire was almost cut into running down the inside of the door channel.
Glad you found the problem before damage occured . Im a tard with most car audio but know how electrical works been in the field to long . have good voltage at one end and not other = bad wire :p
