so for about 6 months a hifonics bxi 1606d has been hooked up to a kicker. 4 guage power and 4 gauge full ground. stock battery fused at 100 amps and the stock alt puts out 105 amp max. my friend would tell me it "shutoff on the loud bass notes when turned up".

so tonight we put the system in my car. i have 2 full runs of 1/0 guage and a yellowtop fused at 200 amps. at first we had the system at full tilt for about 30 minutes and then after that the problem happened again. in a song where the bass hits the amp cuts out. the amp is still on but it just doesnt output anything. to make it work i turn off the deck and turn it back on.

can anyone tell me why this happens where the amp cuts out?

asking it to do something it cant do? i had a POS 300wRMS bridged 2ch amp pushing my two 15" type R's for a day or so, and it would cut out at high volume until i would turn the volume back down. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

does it go into protect mode? because thats the only way it could do that unless something is internally wrong. when volume is up high and low bass note hits then its asking your amp for to much and overloads it. when you turn off your HU it turns your amp off then turns it back on and runs fine until the next time.

it is not over heating and it is going into protect mode. but it goes in to protect mode way to fast. meaning since i havent used it all night i could go crank up to 50 for like a half hour but after that i cant even get past 40.

sounds like overheating

Some people will bash me for this, but I read alot about hifonics amps giving people problems. I guess they put out alot of power for the money, but you get what you pay for. Ive never had problems with alpine, ads, jl, or even kenwood amps. Some Ive had for close to 10 yrs.

Voltage drop in the car occuring after banging for half hour, drawing more juice than the alt can "resupply" to the battery, At lower voltages power supply FETs in the amp draw more current to make up for the lack of voltage, resulting in overcurrent situation, resulting in protect mode. FETs also change current draw as they heat up, draw more current, even though the amp is cold, there is still heat being generated, it is just being disipated by the heatsink, but the FETs are still warming up.

13.8 volts X 50 Amps = 690 watts

11.5 volts X 60 Amps = 690 watts

The power supply in your amp will draw more current at lower voltages to try to make the same power from less voltage. If your amp has overcurrent protection you may be forcing it into protect after banging the hell out of it for half hour, will take some time for the alt to recharge the batt.

If you measure your voltage after it starts cutting out on you, and no signifigant voltage drop is occuring you have a problem with your amp.

well i know its a problem with the amp because my voltage doesnt drop below 13.8. i would just like to know if the problem started for the other owners shitty electrical system.

How could any of us tell you that? Take it to a shop have it benched or tested. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif
