Hey guys, hoping you can help me diagnose whats going on here.

I have honda civic 2002, eld equipped //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif

Stock alt, yellow top up front.. 1 run of #1 wire to back distro, then 4 guage ground power from and to amps. Grounds to frame, sanded down to bare metal then self tapped in.

Amps-

autotek 1500.1 ( 1 ohm)

JBL gto1000.4 ( 4 channel, running 2x4ohms @ 150watts)

So, as my title expresses im having amp problems related to the jbl, I've tested voltage at amps and both read 13+ volts but I only have 70 amps from alt and whatever the cranking amps of my batt are. I can play the music at about little over half and my jbl shuts off into protect mode making distinct distorted sounds through speakers, but it plays fine at lower volumes.. whats my problem, and what should I do?

That sub amp is STARVING for power when ur pushing it.. leave the 4 gauge for the 4 channel and add a 1/0 gauge dedicated to the sub amp. The 70amp alternator is really on the weak side too.. I'd seriously consider getting a h.o. alt.. probably not the answer you wanted, but thats what I'd do.

Not the sub amp but yeah I thought so.. I need some expertise on remedying the eld electrical system so I dont need a load to get the most out of my alternator...

Is there any logic in that my sub amp seems less powerful since I adjusted the gain on my jbl higher? but will adding another batter and isolator help my output or raise the amount of amps I have?

First place of concern is a slight short in the speaker wire.

Start by disconnecting one channel and see if the amp turns off. Repeat with the other. If it shuts off with one but not the other. You know where to start looking.

General rule of thumb with connections: if you can see any bare copper strands on either end, it is a liability.

To diagnose if the ELD is a problem, you need a volt meter at the dash. Cig lighter plug-in kind is fine.

If voltage drops suddenly with or without the system on, and turning on the A/C causes voltage to jump up - that is the ELD.

If just increasing engine RPM causes voltage to jump up, that is the undersized alternator showing what it can (or cannot) do.
