Amp Input Selector??

Can someone answer this question regarding the RCA input voltage selector. I've had a couple amps that you can select between 0-2v or 2v+ input, I can't seem to get any output when setting @ the 2v+. The alpine 9855 head unit I had has a 4V pre-out and the current Kenwood has a 5V pre-out. Right now the amp is set at 0-2V. Will this cause any damage? Any of you experiencing this problem, any solution?

You'll almost never get the full advertised voltage out of a HU without resorting to bass boost and/or clipping the HU output. If it works with the selector in the lower position and you have the gain set correctly it shouldn't be an issue.
