Amp in protect mode??

problem is i have a hifonics zxi6406 4 channel amp with four guage wire runing for power and ground. and i can not seem to keep the amp out of protect mode. it goes after like 5 min of playing. as of now i have it in 2 channel mode with two eminence and 2 bullet tweeters i was wandering if there is a flaw im setup of is there something wrong with my amp... what else could cause the amp to go into protect.

oh the voltage is constant at 12-13 volts

Bad ground, power wire or ground wire could be touvhing remote wire, there are acouple things that could do this

touching remote wire? hmm..i dont think so i checked every wire possible with the amp and nothing turned up. i just paid 400 dollars for this amp so im getting kinda mad

no speakers are hooked up to it and it still goes into protect.

are you SURE you have the positive on the positive terminal, and he negative on the negative teminal?

also, was this amp used or brand new?

this amp was brand new...and yes all the wires are legit. also when i installed this amp my friend hooked up the power wire to the ground spot and the ground wire to the power spot. we blew two 60 amp fuses...but wouldnt the fuses protect the amp?

The fuses would to a point, but they won't always save pilot error. Sounds like you hosed your amp. Welcome to the world of costly mistakes. Sounds like you blew something in the amp's power supply.

that is exactly what i thought too but sometimes the amp will play for hours and stay on ... but sometimes it takes just 5 minutes...or even 30 seconds. it is totaly inconsistant.

Do u have a DMM and did u set ur gains or just put it on whatever was loud? If it actually plays for somet time then it means ur either pushing the amp too hard. Or the impedance on the speakers is too low for the amp to handle. Do the gain setting tutorial

ok that sounds like good news it still works....

now if i only have 4 speakers at the moment. 2 eminence and 2 bulllet tweeters how should i wire them up to stop the problem.... or do i not have enough speakers yet...

ps the gains are just set like half way.

the remote wire attachment thing's protect light is always on even when the amps is not i just dont use it...
