Amp Help!

I just got my first car 4 months ago and I am looking to get an amp and a subwoofer. I am looking to spend about $450 for some subs, amp and a wire kit. I found a pair of kicker 12" comp vr's wired at 4ohms (info below) for $300. I don't know what amp or wire kit to get for these for around $150, I don't know much about the ohms and if higher or lower rms amp is needed. I believe that they can be wired to 2 ohms. Anyone think they can help me out?

^^^This. Or browse the classifieds.

You can get better woofers for the money. How much space do you have available for a box? What kind of sound are you going for, just loud, just SQ, or both? The box you put it in will make a big difference as well. Be sure to allocate some funds for that. There are a couple guys on here that can design you a box for pretty cheap if you can build your own, and they will be good.

Are you dead set on these kickers? There are a lot of better options that will actually be cheaper than those 2 comps you're looking at. The classifieds section here, specifically.
with the amount of scammers on here he would be lucky to end up with a blown sub if any sub at all! OP check out you local CL that way you can do a good once over, test it with a dmm maybe a lite free-air just to make sure your not getting screwed!

^^^Agreed.....

if your trying to spend 300 on subs, hell you could get a better 12(only 1) for less than 300 and put both kicker to shame in the right box.

take a look into these. : Sundown sa 12 d2... just seen one new for $153 shipped and get a good box built and its going to do some work.

Audiopipe apsm1500 - $125 new shipped

1 sundown sa 12 d2 - $153 new shippep

thats only $278 which leaves you some money for other equipment

gota love single sub setups lol

I am not dead set on these, they are the ones that my friend has and he said they where good. I also liked these because they came with the box. Any ones that are new out of the package would be nice.

yeah and in that budget finding something at 800 watts true rms at 4 ohms wont be easy.. just finished an install with a custom box built was around 400 with the chapest 1k watt mono i could find, a skar vvx 12, wiring kit, and box materials... take VWGolfMKIV advice and talk to mylows10, also i wouldnt be so set on one specific subwoofer, you could miss on out great woofers

EDIT: dont listen to just what your friend has to say neither.. just do what you want with your mono, if its a prefabbed enclosure its a pretty good bet its not built to subwoofers specs, although i dont know kicker box's, i did see a prefabbed that was carpeted and glossy black on the face, and it didnt sound great at all..

Check their rep. Talk to people. Check their feedback. Don't scare him off from the classifieds. The deals on there are gonna give him better options, and he will be happier overall than going with the kickers.

And definitely talk to mylows10. He's a good guy and can help you out. If you need any help, you can always pm me. I don't have all the answers, I'm still new myself. But, I will FIND the answers for you.

your right I was very vague, if they have a good amount of feed back and the deal doesn't seem to good to be true I'm sure it's fine.

well i have a skar vvx-12... thats still Brand new in the box, like i said i just built the RIGHT box and it definitely puts kickers to shame on only rated power...

if interested pm me.. i can get the old dmm out and check coils for everybody

well when you go duals its more money, (most of the time) and youd be surprised at the output you can get from one woofer... and if you want a ported box thats built right its actually a lot of space taken up, two twelves would be nearing 5 cu ft.

how about you think on it, and i'll try to meet up with the kid i did the install for tomorrow and i'll try to get a vid?

I don't really want a single woofer, would much rather prefer a dual subwoofer.
That's a shame. Because you could get a single SA8 v2 subwoofer & absolutely ***** all over your buddies dual 12" kickers with 1 little 8" sub.
