Hey so i have everything hooked up now 3 phoenix gold tantrums with diamond audio d5 300.2 amp. I think the amp is over heating or somthing becuase when i adjust the bass on the head unit and turn the volume up past certain number it pounds for a few seconds then the subs stop hitting hard. But if i turn the volume on the head unit below that volume they start hitting hard again. Any one have any suggestions thanks!

Not sure on how the amp gain was set but the subs are wired 4 ohms x 2. The link shows how there wired.http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/learningcenter/car/subwoofers_wiring.html?subs=3&impedance=DVC4x2

when they stop hitting hard are they still playing just not loud? if so

could be a loose power wire

or a blown channel on your amp

try hooking up a sub to one channel then turn it up

then hook it up to the other channel then turn it up

you will know if you have a blown channel

like worlddre was ganna say i think?

if your subs are wired at an ohm and your amp isnt stable in that ohm it will also do this but usually the speakers will stop playing all the way

I am assuming that you are running the amp in bridged mode? First off I think that is not near enough amp for your trio of subs. Secondly, if my assumption is correct, the Yup, tis my friends 2 channel rockford does it. Guess she gets a lil warm running @ 2 ohms barely breathing under his seats //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

i dont think his amp is going into protect mode i might be wrong tho

but he said when he turns it up it stops hitting hard i think he means its still playing but just not loud

You're right. I didn't read the original post closely enough.

He's just asking more of that amp that it has to give him. 300-400 watts (the Diamond amps are underrated a bit) just isn't enough for those 3 subs.

Thanks alot guys for all the tips, and yes im going to be upgrading amps very soon. I bealive that the amp just dosn't have enough either becuase it gets extremly hot to running those. And when i turn it up they keep playing but just sound like crap and stop hitting hard untill i turnt hem down. Ill try the different channel today see if that helps any.
