Amp going into protection mode?

I have a spa1900d db drive amp, I have read good things on this amp and if you look it is not cheap either. Although when I turn the volumr up it goes in and out of protection mode. Why? I have lowered the gains and it has helped, but again why?

Could it be because I used 8 gauge wiring?

two things you will hear....check your ground....and voltage drop. using bigger wire will help.imagine drinking a milkshake through a coffee stirring straw..thats what your amp is doing as far as voltage going throught the small wire. oh yeah,you may get flamed on this forum...it sux!

to get flammed means people who think they know it all and think they are better than you will talk crap about your setup.dont worry about them though...they are just lonely and dont have any friends and they like to act tough while hiding behind a keyboard.

i would go as big as possible with the wire like you said...make sure your ground is the same size and as short as possible. and if that dont fix your problem,you may have to upgrade your alternator or battery.

Bigger wire is one thing.. Also, you may have your subs wired wrong, giving the amp a ohm load it cant handle? It can handle it at lower volume but not at higher if its not stable at that ohm. Check to see the final output of yours subs.. Keep that up and your amp will be stuck in protect mode more than likely..

ok, yeah my friend said he wired them at 1ohm, he said both my amp and my fosgate p3s could handle it. Do you recomned wiring them at a different ohm?

I dont know the amp, just did a quick search and that amp is supposed to be stable at 1 ohm. Might want to double check in case he wired it up wrong or something.

But ya i think next is upgrade the wiring and check out the ground as stated.
