Amp goes into protection mode

i stay away from best buy when it comes to car audio...it was cool when i was rocking 2 sony explods in a sealed box back in 2001 but i wouldnt recommend them to anyone.
i called SS Audio, Audio Express, 3G Car Audio and another shop i forget the name and they all say they tune the gain by ear.

im about to leave so i should have the info about the sub within the hour.
People do it all the time, it's possible, just takes experience.

how do i do that?
Turn your meter to the setting that has Omega on it (what you guys call "the ohm symbol", bottom left in this pic). If your meter has multiple settings, use the lowest one (i.e. 200 in this pic)

Then, without ANYTHING connected to the sub, put one probe on the + for one coil and the other prob on the - for that coil. You should get a reading either around 2 or 4. Post here EXACTLY what your reading is, the more precise the better.

i'll get one on the way home tonight and check it out.

i like the amp so i think im going to replace the sub unless someone can give me a reason not to go that route. also its pretty hard to find a sub that can handle 1000+ rms at 2 ohm (~ 1500rms would be better at 2 ohm) and not have dual cores unless im just not looking in the right place.

What in the world are you talking about? You need a sub that can be wired to a 2 ohm FINAL load. Meaning a dual 4 ohm or dual 1 ohm would work fine.

i found a diagram to wire it parallel and in a series. the shop had it wired parallel which i read halves the 1 ohm running it at .5 ohm. i read that if i hook it up in a series, that it'll double the 1 ohm to 2 ohm which will work with the amp.

tell me if im not reading this right...

im gonna go hook it up and see if that'll work

Yes, if they had your sub wired down to .5 that would definitely piss that amp off, lol

man what a hassle this was....im gonna take it to another shop and have them correct all of the gains just to make sure but it sounds great so far!!

thanks for all of the help guys, much appreciated!!!

it amazes me that someone who is a "professional" at something could be that **** stupid, not to check the ohm loads before running anything.

but thats life. at least the issue got worked out.

and op. running a full 1500 watts on a factory electrical system isnt really the best idea in the world, i would look into doing the big 3 in 1/0 and possibly a second batt/high output alt.
