Amp goes into protection mode

couple things that i didnt like when i talked to the guy about an hour ago...he kept talking about 1 ohm when my amp and sub should be run on 2 ohm and that it was connected on the higher side instead of the low side........now from what i read, the point of a line out converter was so you could hook the amp from the factory deck to the amp using the low side...but im not 100% on what that means.
Your amp has a switch on it that changes it between high level input & low level input. This is just the input sensitivity of the amp. Low Level has a range of: 125mV-5V while the High Level is: 250mV-10V. If your LOC is doing it's job and outputting the right level signal it should be set to low level. But before you go and play with any of the settings I suggest you show us exactly what model LOC you have. We also need to know exactly what coil configuration your sub is.

here is the LOC that i have: Amazon.com: PAC SOEM-T 2-Channel Premium Line-Out Converter with Remote Turn-On Trigger: Automotive
i looked for it this morning but didnt see the LOC anywhere...

just to be sure, the LOC has 4 RCA cables and the Amp has 4 RCA cables which should all be hooked up right...2 on the line-in and 2 on the line-out??? if i remember correctly by looking at it this morning, i only saw 2 RCA cables in the line-in and the line-out connections were empty...is this right?
You do NOT need anything connected to the output RCA's on your amplifier.

Your LOC has it's own set of gain controls for the left and right channels. Also it has switches on it to change between wired and RCA. I believe the input should be set to wired and the output should be set to RCA. It would be good for you to check it and tell us what they are set to now.

So lets get back to the exact problem your trying to solve. Are you unhappy because you believe it's not loud enough or because it's cutting out? Describe exactly when it cuts out. Heavy bass notes? Just anything high volume? Randomly?

my main issue is the cutting out of the amp. if i turn the radio bass all the way down to -6 and turn the bass knob all the way up the amp will cut off at medium volume but i can hardly hear the bass. if i turn the radio bass up to 0 and turn down the bass knob to about half way, the amp will cut out at low-medium volume while the bass is about the same. either way i can barely hear the bass coming from the subwoofer. i have the backseat down and the sub facing the cabin and its still minimal, i know the bass is there, but its definitely weak.

the car is in the shop getting front speakers and tint put in so i will be able to answer specific questions once i get it back about the LOC and the gains and such.

Here is a better link...in the amazon link it says 2 channel which mine is but shows a 4 channel LOC: http://www.pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?ProductId=175&CategoryID=28

i bought it directly from Fi Car Audio a couple years ago and cant find any email or paperwork on it at all....its never been installed so i dont think the sub is bad unless it came bad from the factory.

i'll pull it out after work and make sure which one it is.

The sub is fine. If it is dual 2ohm its more then likely wired to 1ohm at the amp.. Most 1500watt and up amps are 1ohm stable but kicker is not. If the installer wasnt familiar with kicker amps he might of thought it was 1ohm.

Yes we definitely need to know which it is, because if it's a dual 2 your either going to need to wire it to 4 ohm (which would cut your power in half) or get a 1 ohm stable amp.

i stay away from best buy when it comes to car audio...it was cool when i was rocking 2 sony explods in a sealed box back in 2001 but i wouldnt recommend them to anyone.

i called SS Audio, Audio Express, 3G Car Audio and another shop i forget the name and they all say they tune the gain by ear.

im about to leave so i should have the info about the sub within the hour.
