Amp Goes into Protection Mode

Alright my friend has an old school directed 1100 and the gains were set by the people he got it installed at. but he wanted his subs to be louder, so he started messing with the gains and i told him this is probably the problem. Am i right? Or is there something else going on?

could be a heavy voltage drop at the amp, and it can be the ohm load the amp is seeing, if the subs are wired too low it will possibly put the amp into protect before it burns up

well i think its wired at 1 ohm, but hes had the amp for like 5 months without a problem, so i dont think that is the problem, and what do you mean by voltage drop? you mean clipping?

If the gain and/or bass boost are set too high, it could send the amp into protect.

By voltage drop he means from the electrical system. Most amps will go into protect when the voltage from the electrical system drops below a certain level. Another possible cause. With his "new and improved" setting, the amplifier is likely drawing more current from the electrical system, causing more voltage drop.
