Just bought a Next VRz 4.400, and been having issues with it since. Specs:

First, it was too much power for the component set, and the crossover's tweeter protect would kick in and shut my tweeters off. Shortly after, the amp would protect. Don't know if that is due to the crossover or a problem with the amp.

Now, the amp gets very hot after only a short time of play.

-Voltage isn't an issue, running voltage is 13.8 or so and the amp will only drop to 13.2 at the most.

-Ground is fine, my AQ 1200D which pulls tons more current is grounded to the same spot and does not get warm.

-Gain should be fine. 25% and I have 5v preouts. Perhaps I should set with a DMM?

Setting gains is never a bad first step. I would start there. Amp could be going into protect due to its thermal protection (overheating).. Might want to consider cooling options. Start with with the gains though; what load is the amp seeing?

4 ohm on the front channels, nothing hooked up to the rear.

I don't want to lose output turning the gains down. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Front stage already can't keep up with the bass, even though it shouldn't be having an issue at all.

Well if you eyeballed it, you might as well use a DMM to set it correctly, that way you know its correct and don't risk hurting your equipment. and hell it might even fix the problem at hand.
