Amp getting hot

I have a Memphis 16SR1250 amp. I'm running 2 Memphis PR 10s. SVC. They are wired to 2 ohms. The amp is 2 ohm stable. I live in Alabama. It gets hot here. My amp will get really hot to the touch after 20 minutes of playing time. It's never shut off on me, but I'm afraid it might. I'm using 8 gage power/ground wire. I have a good, sanded ground. It's a class AB amp, mono channel. It has 2 speaker terminals the are internally bridged. All settings are at half. Any suggestions on how to keep this bad boy cool? I know that amp is way too small for those subs. I plan on getting a 500w one day.

Its going to get hot, that means the heat sink is doing its job. As long as its not frying a egg hot its fine. AB tends to get more warm also. Make sure the signal is clean, boost off, gain set right. That's not a lot of power so don't try to over drive it

Place 4-5 washers under each mounting foot/tab so it gets a little air circulation will help out some.A/B amps run warm to hot to the touch unlike most class d amps..its normal,as long as it never shuts down on you, it should be fine.As stated..its not alot of power for a Mono amp, so dont max out the gain and expecting 500+-1k out of it, if so, its time to purchase more power.If you still are concerned about it being too hot, after raising it off the flat surface,buy a Stinger 105 cfm fan and you will keep it running cooler

Hmm.. I feel like Ive had this conversation about the same kind of issue about a week or so ago with someone on here.Have you looked into any of the Alpine 500.1 mono amps?They are 2 ohm stable and you can find New in alot of cases around $100-140 dollars that doubles the power of that amp.Pretty solid amps for the money.Just an option for you.Having a little more power and running moderately in most cases will also keep the strain off of an amp also.Wait till summer when its 120-130*inside the vehicle with all windows rolled up..That fan will most deff come in handy then

An example of the 105 cfm fan suggested.You may find it for couple dollars cheaper by searching

I use these for easy installation, though it doesnt move as much air as the one above,but does just fine in some of my installs

OP, is that an extended cab s10 you got there??

Settings are set on 1/2 you say, maybe try toning it down a bit say like 11' o'clock position...see if that helps.

Some amps are pretty well known to get hot/heat up.

they all are.i know about 10 diff people with that kind of mileage and way beyond on the frontier

get a sa 12,buy my soundstream rubicon 1.1000d amp.get a box made for it aero ported.load it off the passenger side back door and i guarantee you will be happy

I'll definitely think about that amp. Not a bad price. Will that over power my subs? They are 400 watts max.
